Talkin bout a revolution

posted 1 Nov 2011, 08:21 by Mark Broomhead
There is much talk of revolution nowadays, often accompanied by bloodshed with mixed motives and outcomes.
The word "revolution" is from the latin "revolutio" meaning a turn around - a fundamental change in a power or organisation in a short period of time. There was, is,  a revolution that changed and continues to change the world and he is Jesus.
Jesus turned things around - in his society he did the unthinkable, touched lepers, associated with social outcasts, he spoke to women, unclean women at that, he overturned tables, he surrendered his life for those who did not even deserve it...........
The centre of this revolution was love. Not soppy love, not weak love, not the sort of love that buys the obese child another bag of sweets, not the sort of love whispered into a girls ear to loosten her clothing, not the sort of love to gain favour, respect
or self worth. No this is a selfless love, an uncomfortable love, a love that changes everything, a love that turns the world upside down. A love that can be ours. A love that only grows as we give it away.

Isaiah 61

The Year of the LORD’s Favor
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favour
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
   instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
   instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
   a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendour.
