Food Bank collection!

posted 19 Nov 2012, 05:44 by Mark Broomhead

Hi All

Volunteers needed

Since opening four months ago Clay Cross Foodbank has distributed 2.6tonne of food or 2800 meals to local people in crisis and our stocks are at an all-time low.

On Saturday 1st December and Sunday 2nd December foodbanks up and down the UK will be collecting food at their local TESCO store.

We will be asking shoppers as they enter our local stores to kindly donate an item or two, from an extra shopping list we will give them, for local people going hungry.

These items will be collected at the checkouts and TESCO are adding 30% to whatever we can collect.

We will be collecting at Alfreton, Clay Cross and Chesterfield TESCO stores on the same weekend and need your help.

We need volunteers to:

  • Greet the public and hand out shopping lists
  • Collect food in with a big a THANKYOU or a God bless
  • Move food to the sorting area
  • Sort food into categories
  • Transport food to our warehouse
  • Weigh and date food at the warehouse
  • Help where needed most

We have spit each day into shifts: three on Saturday 9-12.30/12.00-15.30 and 15.00-18.30 plus two on Sunday, 9.30-13.30 and 12.30-16.30. (The overlaps are intentional).

The OBS are looking after the main chesterfield Tesco - so please let us know if you can help!! It's only a couple of weeks.
