Charles the Martyr was King of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1625 - 1649. Charles was offered his life if he abandoned the historic Church of England. He refused, giving up his life for the future of the Church of England and as a result is regarded by many members of the Church of England as a martyr. King of kings and Lord of lords, whose faithful servant Charles prayed for those who persecuted him and died in the living hope of your eternal kingdom: grant us by your grace so to follow his example that we may love and bless our enemies, through the intercession of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. |
