About The Order






The Order of the Black Sheep is in its early infancy, so, many of the words that will eventually adorn these pages are still to be written. Community is about the people, so as we grow into deeper relationship with each other and God, more of the personality of the order will become apparent. The only qualifying characteristic we share is a desire to know more of the revolution that is Jesus.

So for now, a starting place. The principles, rule or code if you like, around which we gather.......

To Seek God

  • Through the scriptures
  • In prayer
  • In one another
  • In the unexpected places

To Worship God Creatively

  • As we gather
  • Through our work and art
  • In every area of our lives

To love one another

  • By sharing the good news in word and deed
  • By seeking justice
  • By sharing our resources and offering hospitality 
  • By listening to one another 

To grow

  • As a child of God in the image of Christ
  • To become a servant 
  • To discern my vocation and encourage others in theirs 
  • To develop my gifts and learn new skills to enrich my life and the life and mission of the community.

To live respectfully

  • Of God
  • Of others, even when we do not agree with them
  • Of creation
To rest
Take time to reflect on the day before God 
Take time from work to enjoy the good things God has given us
Make a time of retreat/pilgrimage each year.

    As Part of the worldwide Christian church our statement of faith can be summed up by the Nicene Creed

    "We believe in one God, 
    the Father, the Almighty, 
    maker of heaven and earth, 
    of all that is, seen and unseen. 

    We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, 
    the only Son of God, 
    eternally begotten of the Father, 
    God from God, light from light, 
    true God from true God, 
    begotten, not made, 
    of one Being with the Father; 
    through him all things were made. 
    For us and for our salvation 
    he came down from heaven, 
    was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary 
    and became truly human. 
    For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; 
    he suffered death and was buried. 
    On the third day he rose again 
    in accordance with the Scriptures; 
    he ascended into heaven 
    and is seated at the right hand of the Father. 
    He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, 
    and his kingdom will have no end. 

    We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, 
    who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], 
    who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, 
    who has spoken through the prophets. 
    We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. 
    We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. 
    We look for the resurrection of the dead, 
    and the life of the world to come. Amen."
